I came over here hoping to find out if LJ is really down or if it's just me. There isn't the plethora of posts I was expecting! I know that GJ used to be the place for this, but I figure since it pretty much died, everyone would come over here.

I just wanted to post to let everyone know what's up with this journal. As of right now, it contains an archive of my entire livejournal through 8/4/07.
I'm not planning on reading the friends-list here because I know that a lot of people are crossposting and I don't want to read the same thing twice. :-p
I probably won't be updating this one either, because when LJ has blackouts I tend to go to GJ. However, I will continue to periodically back up my LJ here.
For the record, I have also secured ![[info]](http://www.insanejournal.com/img/community.gif) erotic_elves here on IJ just in case there is a Great Fandom Migration and it turns out that this is the Place to Be. |

This is kind of strange, but I almost wish that I had a permanent account so that I could demand my money back. Especially if it was purchased in this last wave of sales, AFTER Barak promised that fandom was safe and BEFORE they imposed new restrictions on content. Underhanded.
If I were a permanent account holder, this is what I would do: Write to Livejournal and ask whether, in light of their TOS changes, I would be entitled to a refund. I would quote Barak where he said that fandom was probably safe (I can't think of it offhand but I could find it), point out the suspicious timing of the sale, and state that when I bought my account I was under the impression that I would be able to remain on Livejournal for a very long time. But that, because the TOS is constantly changing, I no longer feel safe to do so. Because I was unaware of these policy changes before purchasing the account, is a refund possible?
Frankly, I would just like to know LJ's response to this.
I would also like to know how they would react if they got a letter like this from every permanent account holder in fandom. (Note, I'm not asking you to actually GET a refund, but merely to pose a hypothetical to Livejournal. I know that some people will still want their perm accounts for whatever reason.)
But I don't have a permanent account. I don't suppose any of you who do have looked into this? |

I just posted this as a comment to the latest announcements post, but I thought I should repost here. Because I just realized something that is REALLY bothering me about this whole mess. Like many of you, I feel extremely deceived.
One of the reasons that these suspensions are particular upsetting to me is that I had a very civil discourse with ![[info]](http://www.insanejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) burr86, trying to figure out what would happen if material WERE deemed "inappropriate" and I repeatedly used pornish_pixies as an example. To be fair, he made it quite clear that he wasn't speaking officially for Livejournal. But this is the response that he gave me, and it sounded to me like he was summarizing LJ's policies at the time:
It depends on the circumstances, honestly.
If it's an entire community devoted to "mmm yum hot sweet seven year old flesh" or whatever, then the community is suspended. If it's one post in a community where, say, the poster posts child pornography -- then the individual poster is suspended, but not the community. (Unless it's been a rampant problem in the community and we told the maintainer "hey, watch out", but in that case there's warning.) But that assumes that it's clear, 100%, nobody thinks it's ambiguous sort of violations of the policy.
If it's "hmmm, this is probably in violation, but maybe not 100%" -- and honestly, those cases are *really* rare -- then what happens is a "temporary" suspend. Temporary because it's not a clear violation of the policy, suspension just because we want to err on the side of caution and remove it from public view. And what happens in those cases is that you'll get an email saying "hey, this is still a violation, but not unambiguously so. please delete it and we'll unsuspend you ASAP."
So there's provisions in place even to account for the edge cases, because we don't really want to permanently suspend someone just because they tripped across the line of acceptability, where they probably don't know any better, etc. But if someone is unambiguously violating the policy -- in the manner where there's not even any question that they might not be -- those *do* result in permanent suspensions.
That's a high-level overview though. Everything depends on the individual circumstances, because each case is subtly different from the next. So I kind of hesitate posting this comment because I don't want people to think this is the Definitive Guide -- but take this comment in the spirit it was intended. Contents may settle during shipment, etc. *g*
I think that the fact that this was FAN ART and not depictions of real children would make it clear that the artists in question "tripped across the line of acceptability, where they probably don't know any better." Which means that the bolded bit above, assuming that that's actually LJ's policy, was completely IGNORED in this situation.
How much do we have to scream and yell and demand before Livejournal just TELLS US what we can and cannot post? None of us WANT our accounts suspended. We don't WANT to do anything illegal. WE JUST WANT TO KNOW.
Now, I'm not saying that burr86 was lying to me. It's just as possible that LJ simply ignored its own policies in this case. But either way, that's just NOT ON.
Also, tarie and I have made the decision to lock down erotic_elves. Well, unless in the next couple of days Livejournal makes some grand statement that makes it clear we have nothing to fear. But I would feel TERRIBLE if one of our members' accounts were suspended because of something they posted to EE. |

I was hoping upon first hearing about ponderosa121's suspension that things weren't as bad as they seem, but no, it looks like they pretty much are.
Shit.
First of all, this was a post at pornish_pixies. The fact that it was only a personal journal suspended and not the entire comm is at least somewhat reassuring. The fact that the personal journal was PERMANENTLY suspended WITHOUT WARNING is extremely disconcerting.
I've heard unsubstantiated rumors that maybe it's not just LJ this time, but pressure from Someone Much Bigger with a bit of a stake in making sure that Harry Potter in particular is not, uh... sullied. Which means this may be a witch hunt. It also means that it's probably targeting art, because that's something very easy to point to and say BADDIRTYWRONG.
And to be completely frank, we know that Pondo's stuff is about as bad as it gets. As in, obviously underaged non-con and that sort of thing. Who's to say it has no redeeming value as art? LIVEJOURNAL AND THEIR SPONSORS, APPARENTLY.
I'm not going to panic until I hear more, but I am going to recommend that erotic_elves artists friends-lock any art that contains OBVIOUSLY underaged characters. I suspect it is not quite as big a deal for us as it is for pornish_pixies.

Dude, like, as much as I love panfandom games, it's amazing to do an RP with PLOT again. You just can't do that with 132785932587 characters who don't know each other.
Disclaimer if you're trying to watch Eighth Day: It will not always be this crazy. LOL. Everyone's trying to establish right now what what their characters are doing, especially to get the plot rolling.
But like... DUDE. If you ever read one RP thread, make it this one. Because I just can't get this image out of my head: ( DH spoilers )
Seriously, I'm glad this worked out as an RP rather than me writing it myself as a Really Long Fic, because I never could have come up with some of the nuances that the other players have. It wouldn't have been nearly as good a story. :-p

I feel obligated to at least mention the daily_deviant wank (if you don't know what I'm talking about, consider yourself lucky) because my posting day happens to be tomorrow and I do plan on posting, and no, my submission does not involve a particular word that is causing so much controversy. Whether I agree or not with the mods' decision - and this is one particular argument that I am choosing not to participate in for various reasons - I am confident that it does not stem out of any maliciousness, and I hope that no one plans to condemn the community as a whole because of this issue. Because frankly it's one of the few active HP adult fanfic comms we have left (it's certainly far more active than either PP or EE has been for a while) and I'd hate to see it explode in a fiery ball of wank.
Plus I know that you guys were looking forward to some triofic. The kink I chose was "safe sex." Hopefully there aren't any problems with that one. :)

Okay, 1) Go submit fic prompts for me. There's a bunch already and I'm already excited at the prospect of writing one of them. :-D The more specific, the better!
2) frogmajick and lheena slept over last night. It's amazing how much funnier an episode of House is at four in the morning. Also apparently I have cool stuff. Okay, I DO have cool stuff. But it's only appreciated by the right people. I'm like, here's my Doctor Who scarf and here's my signed copy of Chamber of Secrets and here's my Captain Jack action figure and here's my massive collection of BPAL...
3) Speaking of BPAL, GOT THE GOOD OMENS/STARDUST ORDER TODAY! Unfortunately I don't have quite enough decanting supplies on hand right now. I placed an order last week so it should be getting here soon. I'll email everyone in the circle when I actually get around to mailing. :) But, oh yum. Well, except for Agnes Nutter, which really DOES smell like gunpowder, which to me is not a very good smell, heh.
4) Apparently my cable was out for four days before I noticed. I still haven't called the cable company. They're going to be like, it's been out for HOW long? LOL. The only reason I even knew was because my TIVO hasn't taped anything since Monday.
5) My daily_deviant day is in four days, and I finally have a bunny. It is DH compliant and quite wrong. Oh heck, I'll just say it - it's trio. I haven't written trio!sex in aaaaaages. I've also started a Snarry fic (I know, how crazy is that?), but I don't know when it will get done. I've also started over on my Percy ficathon fic to write something DH compliant because I really don't think I could write the old one now. I'd also like to write Remus/Tonks for this month's erotic_elves challenge, but with four days left and already having to write the D_D fic, it's unlikely I'll get to it. |

I've seen several people mentioning that they're interested in reading Remus/Tonks fic now, since it became canon in HBP and moreover, ( Spoiler ). So just because I like to pimp myself, here's all of my R/T stories. Which isn't as much as you might think because I write so many different pairings, LOL. But it's definitely what I've written the MOST of a single pairing, aside from R/S. Those marked as HBP compliant means that I wrote them after HBP came out.

So. Excited. And I know it's a cracked out idea, but enough people told me they liked it that we just ran with it. If it hadn't turned into an RPG I was going to write an epic novel-length fic. The game starts on Monday, and if you're one of those who just likes to lurk, everything takes place in the_eighth_day so just friending that comm would set you up. |

Okay, judging from the 800+ comments on the news page, maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but...
Come ON. A power outage, completely beyond LJ's control, causes service to be down for less than half a day, and people are whining about being COMPENSATED? Dude. With what I imagine is a very small number of exceptions, it's not like LJ has anything to do with your job or business... it being down didn't COST you anything, except maybe some annoyance (like me) that you couldn't do something fun.
Oh, right, but that $2.50/month you're paying for 24/7 access. Okay, well... $2.50 divided by 30 days divided 24 hours times 8 hours downtime entitles you to... about 3 cents.
I swear, between fandom and LJ I have never seen more of a sense of entitlement. |

I <3 you guys. Heeeee. I'm not replying to everyone who commented to 'If My Flist Wrote DH' because I'd get a cramp. But suffice it to say that every time I get a new comment that is someone informing me how awesome I am, I feel a bit warm and fuzzy inside. I'm like, thank you for recognizing that I am so awesome. Hahahaha. There are 5 pages of comments and going strong, so it might even surpass the one from two years ago LOL.
